My name is Cassie Jo Young, and I do not think I'll be able to attend the Roo Fair tomorrow due to my class schedule. However, I did attend the Roo Fair when I came for orientation in July. I acutally found many Student Organizations in which I hope to get involved, but Campus Christian Ministries seemed to stick out to me. I am very excited about getting to know some other Christian students who will share the same morals, values, and standards. They told me about a women's Bible study and a prayer group that will be meeting outside of their regular Wednesday night meetings. I also am interested in the trip to "Getaway" that they will be taking at the end of September. It sounds like a great chance to get to know some new people and learn more about my Savior, Jesus Christ. I'll really looking forward to what this organization has to offer to me and the chances I'll have to give back to it. Cassie Jo Young

Roo Fair Today I attended the Roo Fair in front of the University Center. As I walked past the tables, I learned that UMKC is oriented to accommodating all types of people. In addition to the usual sororoties and other activities, there are many organizations for religion, as well as ethnicity and racial issues. These are things that you wouldn't always find in such great numbers and varieties at other college campuses. UMKC is unique in this aspect, and I'm glad I learned about all the different organizations and groups here.

Today, just outside of the University center was a row of tables. On the tables were all of the programs that UMKC can provides. I was able to take advantage of a few of these services. I was able to register to vote, and I got information on the university health plan. All of the information was topped off with free things such as candy and my personal favorite Frisbee, and coolie cups. Roo fair in my opinion is good way to expose shy students like myself to the variety of programs that offered. I know that the facts I acquired will be useful in the near future.

Hello Nicole, The Roo Fair was like a carnival as i see it, but smaller. There were musics and foods that students can enjoy. The Fair has different booths that represent for different organizations and groups of people on campus. There were game booths that gave out prizes, but I'm not sure what the prizes are though, I was just briefy looking through the different booths that were held. For the most part of the Fair though, students stand and watched booth people do their things, such as drawing, painting, and etc. Ann Huynh

Roo Fair by: Noelle Ireland

At Roo Fair I looked at a couple of different organzations. The main ones that I looked at were christian/baptist groups and Sororities. The religous groups I really thought I was interested in but they really weren't what I was expecting. Since I go to church still at home( plus i live at home) I really didnt find it a big deal. I was kind of thinking of joining a Sorority so I decided to take a closer look. I got familiar with the greeks and delta rho a social one. I really liked the information given and I plan on joining with better confidence.

Nicole, I didn't get a chance to go to the Roo Fair on today, but I attended one at orientation in July. The main things that interested me was intermural sports, student government, and the sororities. I don't think I'll join one this year, but I would like to join a sorority eventually. I was unlucky enough to visit the "Roo Fair" during my freshmen orientation. I found the attempts of such a non-social college to try and seem social quite pathetic. I walked around the crowds at the booths trying to make my way to something interesting, sadly I was never able to find it. Actually, I found myself trying my hardest to ignore the people trying to hand me cards and get away from all the mindless droning. But it wasn't that bad really. -Adam Baltezor

THE ROO FAIR

I attended The Roo Fair during my orientation on Friday, August 10, 2001. There were many organizations represented that day. Some of them included The Student Government Organization and The Minority Affairs Organization.

Due to the absence of their secretary, The Student Government was unable to provide me with sufficient information about their organization. However, The Minority Affairs Organization provided me with an abundance of information, including a letter from Joe Seabrooks, Director of Minority Affairs.

Once I have settled and familiarized myself with the University of Missouri, I plan to pursue membership and take an active role with some of these of these organizations. I am certain that my experience here will be one that is educational, productive, and proactive.
